1:1 Learning Support - Extended Office Hours available all quarter!

Latin American Studies is piloting a new program to offer 1:1 learning support to students. Extended office hours are offered weekly and open to everyone (see schedule below). We encourage all of you to take advantage of this program to talk through new ideas, get feedback on assignments, or with any questions or concerns. If at any point in the quarter you miss two or more consecutive synchronous meetings ( in person or remotely), then you must visit office hours to check in (see course policies link below for additional information on attendance).*

Weekly schedule

Mondays: 10am-1pm

Tuesdays: 11:30am-1:30pm

Wednesdays: 12-3pm

Thursdays: 11:30am-1:30pm

There is no need to make an appointment to visit office hours, walk ins are welcome!**

*For Weeks 1-3 only, you should also plan to visit office hours at least once if you miss discussion section (attendance is optional for extra credit weeks 4-10) or if you enrolled late in the class, to discuss strategies and resources to ensure you succeed in the class.

**Our office is located in Room 9 of the Latin American Studies Gildred building (North Campus, near ERC; see map for directions). Virtual meetings via zoom are also available during scheduled office hours; please email Gabriel Bonilla at gbonilla@ucsd.edu to request a link to meet remotely.

**Course Description**
The purpose of this class is to survey the multilayered relations between Latin American studies and U.S. liberation movements, particularly Third World movements, the Chicana/o/x movement, the Black Liberation movement, the Indigenous movement, human rights activism, and trans-border activism. As such, the course pays special attention to the interplay of economics, politics, culture, and the media in order to construct a better understanding of the history and the ideas of these socio-political movements and their connections to Latin America. The class fulfills the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) requirement. The course material includes readings from different disciplines as well as cultural representations – testimonials, films, biographies, etc. — to offer a rich and diverse examination of socio-political movements from a Latin American perspective.
