WELCOME TO MCWP 40 |
Welcome to MCWP 40.
Example: Each week, you will be expected participate in the weekly assignments: read the required text, watch videos to enhance your learning, participate in discussions to practice, and demonstrate your knowledge about academic arguments. Your participation and engagement with the learning activities is crucial to succeeding in this course and will help prepare you for your written assignments.
If you are new to this learning environment, take a moment to get acquainted with the learning management system and make sure you have all the necessary materials and resources to succeed in this course.
Now, please follow the steps below to continue your orientation to this course.
Step 1: Read the course syllabus and course schedule
The course syllabus will provide you with the course schedule, course objectives, explanations of assignments and assessments, grading policies, and instructor contact information. Please read it carefully. You should have a deep familiarity with the schedule and process of the course.
Step 2: Access your course materials
Required Texts:
- MCWP 40 Reader Fall 2021
- The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee
- A Writer's Reference 10th Edition for the Muir College Writing Program by Diana Hacker and Nancy Sommers. A Writer's Reference is also required for MCWP 50.
- Texts are available through the UCSD Bookstore (Links to an external site.)
Videos:
You might be asked to watch videos that align with the course. The videos are already linked within the weekly module in the order you should watch them.
Zoom Video Conference:
We will be using ZOOM, a video conferencing tool to conduct office hours and conferences.
OFFICE HOURS:
I will be holding regular office hours on Wed 10:30am - 12pm and Thurs 5pm - 6pm and by appointment.
To Join an Office Hour at the scheduled time, click the Zoom LTI PRO link in the left-hand navigation menu.
VIRTUAL CONFERENCES
We will meet for virtual conferences on Paper 2 and Paper 3 during the quarter. Check the Syllabus for details.
Please make sure to check the course calendar for any scheduled Zoom meetings. You can also access the Zoom scheduler by clicking Zoom LTI PRO in the left-hand navigation menu.

Step 4: Read the Technical Requirements Page
