PHIL 136 - Philosophy of Mind - Grush [WI21]

Basic FAQs:

1. The class will be IN PERSON, Tu Th 5-6:20 in Petersen 110.

Of course the university may change in-person classes to remote/outside, but for now we are still scheduled as in person, so we'll proceed with that assumption.

[Note that at least for the first few sessions, because of covid-related restrictions on indoor teaching, we will be in REV SOUTH, an outdoor teaching tent area thing in the Revelle Plaza -- I will make an announcement and include a map.]

2. SAFETY wrt pandemic: The room capacity is like 320 and the enrollment will be around 45, so there should be a LOT of space to spread out and be relatively safe. I'm sure they have only certain seats designated as available for seating purposes. Also, even though there will be in-class quizzes and midterms, I won't be handing out any exam or quiz papers. Nothing will be going from anyone's hands into your hands. (Though in some cases I may have a drop box for you to drop bluebooks into as you finish an exam, but that should also be safe. you don't have to touch anything that isn't yours. Also, please make sure you have the UCSD contact tracing functionality enabled on your phone/device. And do anything else you can to create a safe environment for yourself and everyone else.

3. If you enroll in the class, be prepared to attend. Lectures aren't recorded, and there will be a short multiple choice quiz on the readings at the beginning of every class. No need to stress about them, if you've done the readings they should be easy. They are designed just to assess whether you've read the material, they are not designed to test for whether you've understood every little detail.

4. Course grades will be determined by the in-class quizzes, and three in-class exams. See the full online syllabus for details.
