These introductory activities are designed to allow us to get to know you, where you are, what technology you have access to, and what you are expecting from this class. This is also a time for you to review the course syllabus and get to know the basic tools were will be using in this class. In particular, you will be creating and uploading PDFs of your work to two different places (in Canvas and in Gradescope). This is a chance for you to get familiar with that process.

Before you complete the activities below, please review the Getting Started module. You can access this module by selecting "Start Here" on our Canvas homepage or by selecting the "Modules" tab on the left-hand navigation menu. This will orient you to the basic information in and structure of our Canvas and Top Hat course sites. TopHat can also be found on the left-hand navigation menu.

Complete the following activities by the end of Day 1 (August 7th).

4.) PDF Creation and Upload Practice

In this class, you will be writing out explanation using chemical concepts and theories, drawing representations of atoms and molecules, and using mathematical calculations to make predictions about chemical quantities. All of this work will need to be captured and uploaded for scoring. Using the links above, complete the PDF assignment and upload your work to both systems (you will receive credit for both submissions).
There are many different ways that you could create a PDF. You will not be required to use any specific app or process as long as you are able to create your document. Share what you are doing with you classmates so we can learn from each other.

5.) Complete the Unit 1 Module 1 Interactive Readings

Each module will have a series of interactive readings for you to complete in Top Hat.
You are always encouraged to complete the readings ahead of time. This will ensure that you have a heads up on the topics and strategies we will be discussing in lecture and discussion.
Completion of the readings is required and graded. This will contribute to your course participation score.

6.) Complete POGIL Activity 1

Each day (Monday - Thursday), you will have an activity to complete. These activities are intended to allow you to regularly work together, discuss ideas, get feedback, and practice the course material. You may choose to complete the activities with a team or by yourself
