WELCOME TO ECON 105

Welcome to Econ 105

In this class you will learn how to think of the behavior of firms in markets where we are neither at the extreme of monopoly nor at the extreme of perfect competition. Each week I will cover topics in class and you will have access to the recordings through Canvas. However, I strongly recommend that you participate in class. One reason why this will be useful is that for many classes we will use mini-cases. A mini-case is a description of a specific market that is useful to discuss the topics of the class. For example, a mini-case may cover a key antitrust case. In classes where we will discuss such cases, I will let you know about this in advance and provide you with the mini-case to read, but I hope to motivate the discussion of the case during class. Another reason to participate synchronously is that you are more likely not to lose pace. I strongly encourage you to participate in every class.

The class is divided into seven topics and there is a homework assignment for each topic. In Canvas you will also find the homework when I assign it. I will clearly specify which exercises are mandatory and which are optional. Homework is only graded for completion of mandatory exercises. After the deadline to turn in your homework, I will post fully-detailed solutions for all problems on Canvas.

On Canvas I will also describe other assignments for the class, so make sure to visit this site very frequently.
