W9 Tue Class: Proposal Feedback and Group Work [Asynchronous]
No Due Date
Topic: Proposal Feedback and group work
There is no synchronous class today. You will make an appointment with Christine, Mai or Vaidehi sometime near the end of week 8 or during this class time to go over their feedback on your proposal. We strongly recommend using this class time to work on updating your proposal according to this feedback and/or working on your slides for your presentation.
Overall proposal feedback [To be updated]
Don't panic and don't fixate on the grade. Many groups received No Pass grades. This is very normal. You are all in a good place to improve from.
General ways you can improve your proposal:
Incorporate more related work. Go back to your literature search assignment. You should include work that is related even though it's not exactly the same as what you are doing (e.g. different approach to a similar problem, use of your proposed technique on a slightly different problem). Review the related work section of the paper's we're read for examples.
Problem statement and proposed solution: general feedback.
Organize your proposal around the structure of your solution, not around the order in which you will work on tasks.
Avoid "this" as a stand-alone subject. E.g. "This is the reason why it is challenging to..." vs. "The complexity of the network is the reason why it is challenging to..."
Our feedback in the PDF especially is not exhaustive. I.e. we don't call out everything that should be changed, rather we give examples of the sort of changes we're looking for. You should do more than just directly address our comments.
Don't forget the writing hub!
Can't change a rubric once you've started using it.
