This assignment is due by 5pm on Friday, November 12. This is an INDIVIDUAL assignment.
Your assignment for Friday, Week 7 (there is no class on Thursday of week 7 due to the Veteran's Day holiday) is to give feedback on one of your peers' proposal. You will be sharing this feedback with your peers during class on Tuesday, so it is extremely important that you complete this assignment before class time on Tuesday. There is nothing to submit to Canvas. You will create files and move them around in our Google drive research folders, following the instructions below.
The purpose of peer review is for you to help make your peers' proposals stronger. Peer review is a critical part of research, and it is important that you take your role seriously. Your peers are counting on you. Follow the steps below to complete your peer review:
Make sure you understand the grading rubric for the proposals. This is the rubric we will use when we grade your proposals. We will also fill this out when we give you your first feedback. This rubric roughly matches the categories you will give feedback on, as you will see in the feedback guide below.
Find your assigned proposal to peer review in the proposal links document and download it from the link in this document. Everyone in a group will peer review the same other group's document. For example, if you are a member of the Ajorpaz/Tullsen group you will review the Stefan/Narayan proposal. However, because there are an odd number of groups, there are three groups where one person will review a different proposal from the rest of their group. So, for example, in the Stefan/Narayan group everyone except Lauren will review the Ajorpaz/Tullsen proposal. Lauren will review the Lerner/Polikarpova proposal instead.
Make a copy of the Peer Review Feedback Form and follow the instructions in that form to provide your peer review feedback. You may also choose in addition (not instead) to add comments directly to the PDF document, or write comments on a printout of the proposal.
After you have completed your review of the proposal, make a short video (5-15 minutes long) explaining your feedback. The goal of this video is to help the group understand your written feedback. You don't need to explain every single thing you wrote. Just go over the highlights or things you think might be confusing. Normally we have a peer review feedback session in class, but because of the holiday this year we will not be able to do this so the video will stand in for this interactive session.
Copy your feedback form, video, and, if applicable, your marked-up PDF copy of the proposal into the folder the group has set up to received reviews. This will be linked from the peer review assignment spreadsheet document. This must all be done by 5pm on Friday so the group has time to review your feedback and make their proposal edits before class on Tuesday.
Can't change a rubric once you've started using it.
